Show 21 cold up there that, as I think one of the witnesses described it, in the early days it was so cold that it froze your ears when you went from one saloon tho another. As to the Green River, the Green River enters Utah up There ( indicating on map) through, first, Flaming Gorge Canyon, and them red Canyon, down through Lador, to Desolation, and then to the Gray Mine; and then it comes to the open country about Greenriver, Utah. The open country extends in there ( indicating on map) for a distance of about 25 miles. And there have been some attempts to irrigate that country up there; but I think that most of those attempts have been abandoned today. The Colorado River above the town of Moab is little more than a mountain stream. From Moab it swings down to probably a little deeper and a little wider water. But within the distance from Moab down to the junction with the Green River, it is through a canyon. The channel of that river, as is the channel also of the Green River and the San Juan River, even thought it is confined between canyons, has no stability and no depth in its channel; so that a man going down the river may run upon a sandbar; and he may go down the next day and may not find that sandbar there at all. The fact of the matter is that while this boat of the Moab Garage Company was tied up at night awaiting another lad at Moab, they frequently and repeatedly kept the engine wheel and paddle wheel running, so that when they got ready to move out in the morning there would be 1982 |
