Show 9 will show This controversy with reference to these rivers started here on the Green River ( indicating on map), as shown by the petition, about 25 or 30 miles south of Greenriver, Utah. The town of Greenriver, Utah, and also the town of Greenriver, Wyoming, will both be mentioned in the course of the evidence. But the Government has excluded all those portions north of the point indicated on the map, which is practically the mouth of the San Rafael River, because large portions of that land up there ( indicating on map) have passed into the hands of private individuals. Proceeding down the Green River about 120 miles, the Green River there meets the Colorado River. The Colorado River rises up here ( indicating on map), around Grand Lake, Colorado. The point where we start on the Colorado River is right in the neighborhood of Castle Creek, a few miles above the town of Moab, Utah; and the river flows down there and joins with the Green River here ( indicating on map), and continues on down to the Arizona- Utah line. At this time I want to call your Honor's attention to the fact that the Colorado River above the junction of the Green River, for many years was known as the Grand River, and some maps which will be introduced in evidence have that old name 1970 |
