Dixon again played two-thirds his team's battle. Jack Irvine, trying a comeback roll as captain after a long absence from the court, flashed throug at times, but in the long run wilted under Dixon's steady attack, and lost out in both the singles and doubles, the latter seeing him pair with Wallace Stegner. The Cougars repeated their triumph when the Crimson traveled to Provo and then turned on the Utah Agricultural College for a team verdict. Their match with the Farmers at Logan was taken by the latter. And again we are predicting great things for the 1930 Utah racquet aggregation. Dave Freed, the sterling sophomore player, is one reason to hope for great things next season. Freed has the number of the best in the state. While Theron Parmelee's time with the netmen is somewhat limited, the Secretary to the President of the University works his men as do the best of coaches and brings out about the best that is in them.We must say that with Dixon out of the way next year, the Cougars just won't have a look-in, and when they're not looking in as they did in 1929, some team must have a look-in.Utah's tennis courts are the mecca of the best talent in the city throughout the spring and summer months. Many would-be Bill Tilden's trot out to the campus in the wee hours of the sunny mornings and better their games. It's great to know that the tennis sport flourishes here, largely on the strength of the popularity of the courts.IRVINE STEGNERCaptainjp % *_y^jiWILSON SMITHFREED FORSBERGOne hundred forty-five |
