Show ~ Test for asbestos containing materials on the furnace, ductwork, etc. Verify furnace operation and maintain reasonable interior temperature this winter to prevent freezing of pipes. ~ Remove old or un-needed mechanical equipment from the basement mechanical room . ~ Accessibility With the stone front walk, front step and elevated Kitchen/Dining/Living level, the house is not currently accessible to a person in a wheelchair. Listing in the National Register will provide the option of alternate forms of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). However, the city and its architect should examine sensitive replacement of the front walk and step with a walkway useable by someone in a wheelchair or with limited mobility (e.g., using crutches, walker) . If the more modern Living and Garage areas are re-used for active community functions, it may be possibl e to upgrade the Garage to offi ce space and install a ramp to the Dining Room level within th e Garage and minimize th e vi sual impact to the entire hi storic site. Hopefully these suggestions can provide a useful starting point for Centerville City and any volunteer maintenance and repair efforts. The long-range re-use planning will dictate much of the cosmetic or other modifications that will be needed within the building.
