Show TIMELINE LOOKING AT THE PAST AND FUTURE OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION A Whitaker Muse~m Officially Reopens fter a long restoration and many hours of hard work and dedication, the Whitaker Museum opened its doors to the public once again . On Friday March 8, 2013 an opening ceremony was held honoring all those who diligently helped to restore this true Centerville treasure. In attendance were past and present museum board members, city officials, representatives from the Utah State History Department and members of the Whitaker family. In addition , members of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, business owners and the General Public took part in the celebration . Guests enjoyed pioneer musical favorites , listened to speakers that shared stories of the Whitaker family, the process of restoring the museum and even a few remarks by Brigham Young , performed by Michael Barnard . Following the presentation the ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted by Clara Goudy, the first Museum Curator and the present Chairman of the Museum, Spencer Packer. The museum then opened its doors to the Whitaker family followed by all who were in attendance. During the opening ceremony, Steve Thacker, City Manager, stated , "this is truly a place for generations now and into the future to learn of our history and our heritage." The Museum Board now invites the public to come and learn of our communities wonderful heritage and be a part of Centerville's history. The museum is open every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m . to 6:00 p.m. , or by appointment.
