Although these additions are somewhat different from those of the Whitaker house, they nevertheless share some of the visual characteristics that help to describe Centerville's growth. The Whitaker house describes an important period of growth in Centerville. The original stone house shows the first firmly rooted, permanent phase of Centerville's beginnings. The significance of the Whitaker house lies in its architecture as a good example of Classically inspired stone structure built by locally renown skilled masons of locally gathered rock.
