Show 119 Q Just from a casual riding through Greenriver, can you tell the Special Master what type of land is around the town; whether it is level, whether it is covered with sagebrush; its general appearance and characteristics, just as one going through on a train might learn. Can you tell us that? A The country around Greenriver, as you get away from the cliffs-- Greenriver is in the country just outside of Brook Cliffs. It is rolling and hilly country, underlain by shale. The shale flats are very nearly barren of vegetation. There is vegetation there, but it is certainly not abundant. The shale shows through it-- well, you can see the shale flats everywhere you look. Q What kind of land was that is now being farmed in and around Greenriver before it was irrigated? A I am not sure, because I have not been through all that irrigated land. It lies off the main road, most of it. But I think a lot of it is flood plain from the river. Other people would be better qualified than I am to answer that. Q You have no doubt that there are several thousand acres of land around Greenriver that is readily susceptible to the raising of crops, have you? A I do not know. Q And farther down the stream, and below Greenriver, and along the Green River, there are areas of land that would unquestionably 2079 |
