A formal banquet, held in the Union Ballroom, was emceed by Rolfe Peterson, a San Francisco radio and television personality. Following tradition, Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to six alumni. Those honored at the banquet were Harold H. Bennett, president of ZCAAI; Dr. Russell M. Nelson, Salt Lake surgeon; Rocco C. Siciliano, president of the Pacific Maritime Association; Mrs. Belle S. Spafford, president of the Relief Society of the LDS Church; E. Parry Thomas, chief executive officer of the Bank of Las Vegas; and Larry Wilson, defensive safety for the St. Louis Cardinals. Many other prominent alumni gave greetings live or on video tape for the program. They were President David O. McKay of the LDS Church; David S. King, Ambassador to Malagasy; Senators Wallace F. Bennett and Frank E. Moss; Phyllis McGinley, poetess, and pianist Grant Johannesen. Men's Chorus sings old university favorites. 128 |
