Editorial. "Evaluacion De Proyectos De Desarrollo De Comunidades Indigenas," America Indigena, XXII No. 3 (July, 1962), pp. 201-204. There are many national and international organizations now at work in Indian community development projects on the American continent. The Inter-American Indian Institute itself, is preparing to start a project aimed at offering training in community development techniques, at the same time collaborating with the national development plans of various continental countries. Concentrating on the need for defining the proper philosophy for the community development programs in their application on the Indian level, the Inter-American Indian Institute considers it indispensable to evaluate the methods and results of the Indianist projects now existing. With the participation of technicians and specialists who have worked for many years in Indian community development programs, it is hoped that a basis for evaluation of the possible successes, deficiencies or failures of Indianist action in the various continental countries can be formulated. It is worth emphasizing that if Indianism is to finally reach the goals it has set, such success will stem from a knowledge and above all, adequate application of the modern methodology of the various social sciences which, by integrating their efforts, will succeed in understanding the reality of the community with a view to achieving the utmost in organization and development in all fields. 1963 "Actividades Del Instituto Indigenista Interamericano," Anuario Indigenista, XXIII, Mexico, Die, 1963, pp. 3-13. English Summary: The principal function of the Inter-American Indian Institute, a specialized organ of the OAS, is to evaluate, coordinate, initiate and adapt development projects to the many Indian communities on the continent. |
