And in addition, the diffusionists are divided among those who support the thesis that the major part of the pre-Columbian cultural achievements of America originated in the Old World and those who hold that many inventions were sent out from the New World via the Pacific Ocean. The final complication comes from the quasi-anthropologists who, with their ideas about lost continents like Mu and Atlantis or of possible migrations of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel or the arrival of ancient Sumerians on this continent, greatly obstruct, the opinions of serious investigators. This article presents the arguments advanced by diffusionists and separate-inventionists, and the validity of their statements is analyzed, including the problems of Pacific Ocean crossings in frail craft; linguistic relationship, at least of some words, between Oceania and South America; technological similarities; comparisons of the material elements of the cultures; religious similarities; and the domestication of animals and vegetables by the peoples of Oceania and of America.
