Show 41 present year of 1964 it will be 25 years since the celebration of the first Inter-American Indian Congress, assembled at Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico, from April 14 to 24, 1940, and, consequently, of the existence of this Inter-American organization which was created in accordance with that Congress. As it is our purpose to offer in a future issue of America Indigena a broad outline on the activities of the Institute during its 25 years of existence, we will limit ourselves now to mentioning the significance that the publication America Indigena has achieved during this time: to fulfill the commission which was assigned them, and which has been expressed continually since the first editorial of America Indigena: to be used "by all Indianists for the precise and objective exposition of facts and phenomena derived from the observation, from the investigation, from experiment, and primarily for the publication of editorials, scientific studies, works on the life conditions of the native population of the American continent. Now at the start of Volo XXIV of America Indigena, our purpose is not only to maintain its scientific quality and its punctual appearance, but also to find the way to offer our readers studies and papers most useful to those engaged in the various projects of Indian community development, now being carried on in the Americas. In said resolution, the celebration of the V Congress had been programmed for 1963, nevertheless, in spite of the activities of the Organizing Committee, various problems of economical and technical character forced the organizers to postpone the date of the celebration to the present year of 1964, and in meetings which took place at the Instituto Indigenista Ecuatoriano, on January 15 and 16 of this year, both the date and the subject of the symposia were definitely set. The subject has already been approved and is titled,"The Indian Population and the Socio-Economic Plans of Development." Editorial.
