Show 37 in Mexico City, both directly related to the past and present of the American Continent's Indian world. One will be the XXXV International Congress of Americanists which will be held in Mexico from August 19 to 25, 1962 and the other, the First Meeting on Indian Community Development, called by this Institute for August 26 to September 3, 1962. The principal object of the International Congresses of Americanists, which have been held every two years in Europe or on the American Continent since the end of the last century, is to gather together leading anthropologists and historians to report on the advances in their investigations on all that refers to the past and present of the native American cultures. Since this time the Inter-American Indian Institute will act as the general secretariat of the Congress, it is herewith issuing a special invitation to the Indianists of the Continent to participate in this meeting. 1962 Editorial. During the months of October and November 1961, the Director of the Inter-American Indian Institute visited the totality of the Central and South American countries, members of this Inter-American organization. The main purpose of this trip was to strengthen the ties with the various National Indian Institutes and other national and international institutions dedicated to the socio-economic development and improvement of the Indian groups; likewise, to visit the corresponding authorities of the various governments, in particualr their Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Education, Agricultural and Rural Affairs. When the decision of the Chilean government to join the Institute was made known, His Excellency, Dr. Juan Smitmans Lopez, Chilean Ambassador to Mexico and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, was recently received at the Institute by all members of our Board of Directors in a special ceremony of welcome.
