Show 28 1949 Editorial. "El Director del Instituto Indigenista Nacional de Mexico," America Indigena, IX No. 1 (January, 1949), pp. 3-6. Dr. Alfonso Caso, one time Secretary of National Resources and Administrative Inspection, has been appointed as Director of the National Indian Institute as a decentralized body associated with the Instituto Indigenista Interamericano, The Editorial goes on to explain Dr. Caso's education and degrees, his discoveries, and his integrity. Editorial. "El Congreso de Cuzco y las Actividades Contra el Indigenismo," America Indigena, IX, No. 2 (April, 1949), pp. 91- 104. The Editorial is a refutation of Professor Emilio Romero's article "Meditations on Indianism from Patzcuaro to Cuzco" which appeared in Cuadernos Americanos, No. 1, Vol. XLIII, Jan-Feb., 1949. The magazine is published in Mexico and has a wide circulation, both on this continent and abroad. The Editor states that the writer is not sufficiently informed about the material which he discusses. Prof. Romero attacks the Interamerican Indian Institute on many issues, and the Editor refutes each of the attacks. Editorial. Discussion of two recent events of great importance: a) the II Inter-American Indian Congress which had been postponed from 1943 because of World War II, took place on June 24, 1949 in the city of Cuczo, Peru. The Editor discusses the important decisions which were made, b) the unanimous resolution passed by the United Nations in the General Assembly of May 10, 1949 to the effect that its Economic and Social Council will investigate and seek improvement of the living conditions in which the American Indian groups develop, etc. 1950 Editorial. "Cooperacion de la Unesco en un Proyecto del Instituto Indigenista Interamericano," America Indigena, X, No. 2 (April, 1950), pp. 103-109. The Editor explains that the racial practices and beliefs of the aboriginal groups should be cultivated and understood so that modern society can learn from them, but also so that means can be found to introduce ideas which will better the natives. Pamphlets will be issued regarding illnesses, agriculture, natural phenomena, etc. striving to educate the people and help them to accept certain modern processes. The Indian theatre used to present |
