Show The Department of Nursing Education was organized at the U in 1942 to help meet the serious wartime demand for trained nurses. The progressive department not only met its quota, but was the only one in the Nation that exceeded the demand. Since then the Department has expanded its program, increased its staff of competent teachers, and gained the cooperation of the leading hospitals of the State.Realizing the importance of good nursing care throughout the State, the Board of Regents established a College of Nursing last year. Under the direction of Mrs. Hazelle B. Macquin, Dean of the new College, the U has accepted its challenge to train young women to care for the citizens of Utah.Hazelle B. MacquinDeanA great traveler, Dean Macquin has lived many years in foreign countries, among which are Egypt, France, and England. Specially interested in the care of the aged peoples, she is concerned about their recreation and occupations.f \. )]r- \s, » JOne of the finest Colleges of which the University can be justly proud is the Graduate School of Social Work. The outstanding growth of this School can be best measured by the increasing number of graduates now working for their fifth year certificate, and the number of requests from other departments for service courses.Future social workers can now receive excellent training in such classes as group welfare, case work, mental hygiene, criminology, and delinquency. The large number of graduates who have been readily placed in public and private agencies of the nation is evidence of the superiority of the Social Work Department.Arthur L. BeeleyDeanAn English tweed is the perfection of attire. Yes, Dr. Beeley is still partial to many of his native England's customs. Reading his many newspapersâ€"both Utah and those from England . . . occupy a great portion of his off hours. International problems are his greatest interest.f 1 t \ 1 â- y\ 1 V )r 1 ^ r • rifcm |
