Show Well known in conference circles for their golfing ability are the Ute linksters, back row: Joe Jones, Walt Harris, Russ Hadley, Tommy Williams, Pierre Hualde, Sandy Morris. Front row: Ed Howells, Don Giacomo, Bill Johnston, Gordon Brown, Din Morris.Defending champions of the western golf titip Utah's linksters took early advantage of the unusually good spring weather in their practice sessions on the green. With Parry Sorensen as coach and Bill Johnston as manager, the team seemed to be well on its way towards coping the third consecutive Skyline Six championship. The fact that six Utes who participated in the 1948 NCAA golf tourney at Palo Alto, California, were back swinging clubs for the U. team spoke well for the Redskins' chance of grabbing their third championship title.Patiently awaiting their turns to tee off, two golfers watch a third make a good start on a par four hole as he sends the ball down the green with one clean sweep. Not looking for Moses in the bulrushes, but for a lost golf ball, a Ute linkster strikes a typical pose of a golfer after a particularly wayward shot. |
