Show Pitt, and I. J. %A fast break climaxed by a one-handed toss by Don Jesperson caught the Long Island boys off guard and added two points to Utah's score in the lopsided contest with the Eastern quintet.Jesperson rushes in to cover the basket while Vern Gardner attempts his familiar one-handed, over-head pivot shot from inside the circle. Gardner displayed uncanny accuracy with this type of toss during the season.A highly rated Pittsburgh five rolled into Zion in midseason for a one night stand, but the Panthers just couldn't stand up under the torrid Utah attack and fell to the hardwood with a 65 to 44 scalping. Coach Peterson took mercy on the visiting club from the East and removed his regulars early, but the reserves just couldn't do anything wrong and racked up an impressive victory. Scoring honors were scattered throughout the entire lineup, but Idaho's talented Murray Satterfield was top man with 12 points for the Utes.Coach Blair (Bebe) Lee brought his vaunted and powerful Long Island University cagers to Salt Lake City for a short one night visit. The Ute magic over intersectional opponents worked again as the Braves trounced Long Island 65 to 42.During the Long Island fracas, the Utes just couldn't be stopped. With Gardner again at the helm scoring 24 points, the Redskins ran crazy. Dick Smuin, Murray Satterfield, George Smith, Jim Woodward, Don Jesperson, and Fred Weidner simply rolled.Don JespersonNo. 11-^Doland Condie No. 9Fred WeidnerNo. 32221 |
