Show b • • •Before curtain time at any theatre production, the large lifelike murals in Kingsbury Hall attract the interest of the audience. Many have admired the figures represented there and puzzled as to their exact significance. These intriguing panels are the work of Florence E. Ware, a graduate of our own University and of the Chicago Art Institute. These murals, begun about thirteen years ago as a government project, are painted on canvas with oil paints. Live models were used for all the figures, and exhaustive research was necessary to insure historical correctness and details of costumes and accessories. As one studies the murals, it seems that each figure comes to life to tell his own story of the past. Each tells about his own role in this "Evolution of Drama Through the Ages." The story progresses from the man pri-mative in his ritual dances, to Shakespearean actors, and on to the modern-day movie director. The history of the drama is graphically expressed by Miss Ware through the color, pattern, and composition of the panels.248 |
