Confident and competant ball handling seemed to give Vern control of almost any situation.A young spirited Colorado A & M squad arrived in Salt Lake City to give local fans and the University of Utah their first taste of conference competition. During both games the Utes were masters of the situation, thrashing the Rams 60 to 35 and 72 to 46. The first game wasn't even close as the Rampaging Redskins surged to a fast lead. When the Rams returned for the second game some ten weeks later, the situation did not change. This time the Utes were even more powerful, thrashing the invading lads from Fort Collins by over 20 points. The Redskins were hot.Big Vern had two more successful nights as he tanked 19 and 17 points in turn to pace the Utah offense. The Utes were priming for a two-night invasion by the powerful Wyoming Cowboys after the first Ram game, and the Utes looked ready.Hard to determine is who tripped whom, but Glen Duggins, always depended upon to put up a good fight, seems to be in the best position to obtain the ball.
