Show Lights in the many windows of the library beckon students for evening study until ten o'clock. At night the lights on the Park Building are turned on so that it can be seen from the entire valley. The pump, one time meeting point of the students, is now just a place to get a drink. The phrase, "Meet you at the pump after class," left the lips of the students when the bookstore was moved. Now few people venture down past this one time land (or water) mark.In the fall of 1913 this stone, on a homecoming parade float, bore a sign "Bust Boulder." When first brought to the campus it was placed on Hello Walk by the flag pole. Long ago the football rallies were held in that area, and student speakers stood on the boulder, which was therefore called the Rostrum. Then it became the custom for the Freshmen to change its color from red to green. To avoid this annual painting the rock was moved to its present location in the basement of the Park.24 |
