Show Peppermint M ionaa', couple before Renae had a chance to tell us to help ourselves. I understood Andrea's hurry because I'd eaten at her house before. With seven kids, and four of them brothers, you have to learn to grab fast if you want any food. Andrea had learned. "They're good, huh?" Andrea sat next to me on the floor. Her straight teeth bit into the burger and were visible when she smiled. "I dunno, I don't have one." I knew they were delicious though. Mrs. Todd wouldn't serve anything that wasn't. She had an image to protect. "Why not? They can't be too fattening. They're made with tomato sauce." I didn't tell Andrea that chili burgers made with catsup was a whole lot different than a can of low-calorie tomato juice. She didn't want to hear that. Besides, it was our first slumber party at Renae's. She deserved to enjoy it. Whatever the movie was, it was over now and Renae was starting another one. This one was a science fiction movie about future space. All of the people were bald, men and women both, and wore silly stretch suits in a sick, lime green shade. Tracy and I were science fiction fans, so we watched the whole thing. I liked it too, except for the ending. Humans no longer reproduced, so after the oldest lady died, there was nobody left. It was kind of depressing. I'm not sure what Andrea did during the movie. She had spent a lot of time with Sandra and Renae. A few other girls watched some of the movie, but Tracy and I were the only ones who saw the whole two hours. It was late by then, and Mrs. Todd had retired. I'd never seen Mr; Todd, he hadn't been around all night. I didn't know if it was because he didn't like noisy girls running around his house, or if he had to work late to pay |
