Barton apparently had missed her previous efforts, but the rest of us had noticed. Renae must have got desperate and invited me to her party as a last resort. It paid off as she had planned, though. Barton was interested. Barton ignored Jason's remark, which wasn't new. Barton always ignored Jason. He usually ignored me too. Renae was in the picture now though, and he thought I was her friend. "She asked me to remind you about the party. You're going arent you?" "Certainly. I wouldn't miss it for the world." Jason caught my sarcastic jibe and grinned, but Barton was too preoccupied. Barton sank on the couch next to Russ and kicked off his loafers. "This place is looking up." I knew it would be a long week. With Renae and Barton both in close proximity, how could it be anything else. |
