Show 1-eppermc.nt Monday "Barton says he's helped on the campaign and everything." Renae flattened her palm against her chest and rolled her eyes. "I think I'd die if my father was a Senator." I imagined she probably would too. Lawrence Todd was about as much senate material as Jake was though, so Renae would have a long life. Mr. Todd sold real estate all over the county, and he was good at it. Pa said Ozark country was easy to sell and practically sold itself. I think Mrs. Todd may have deserved some of the credit. She was always pushing for a newer this and a bigger that. It took a lot of sales to keep her content. I'm sure Mr. Todd had to work long hours. Renae was the only child at home now, but she had an older sister at Stephens College in Columbia. Stephens was a prestigious college naturally, and Mrs. Todd kept the town well informed on Jennifer's progress. Mrs. Todd seemed to have her nose in everything but Ohio politics. Her and Renae probably wanted to bud into Uncle Williams campaign too, making her list of interests complete. "Uncle William is a neat guy. He would make a good Senator." He would do it without the Todds from Missouri too. "I'm sure he is. After all, he's Barton's father." Renae giggled that little giggle I couldn't stand. Andrea's eyes got round and she coughed. It wasn't easy to choke on tomato juice, but Andrea was doing it. Andrea couldn't stand Renae's laugh either. It was as bad as her tomato juice. She had to drink it for her new diet. Mrs. Carson was worried about Andrea's weight and always finding new diets for her. This vegetarian one was hard on Andrea. It was hard on me too. It always made me feel guilty when I was eating real food or when Andrea broke the rules and had chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies. |
