Show Pepperrr^nc Mend party for awhile, then leave. It's a lot of fun." It sounded like fun. I hoped San dra had a robe. I hoped I could borrow someone's house slippers. I hoped I was asleep when and if the boys came. I was surprised they were the best replacement Renae could find for her magician and carnival pony. There was no comparison. "I doubt Barton will come. I don't think they do that in Cleveland." Barton was too proper to crash a girls' slumber party. Mrs. Todd was too proper to allow it. Barton never did come, but Matt and some other boys did. They only stayed long enough to make fools of themselves and upset Andrea. Matt had a horrible Halloween mask on that was supposed to scare us all into screaming hysterics. Nobody screamed except Andrea. It was her mask and had been in her bedroom. She yelled at Matt for raiding her room and grabbed the mask. I was thankful that Sandra had the sense to zip up tight in her sleeping bag while they were there. Mrs. Todd came out of her bedroom when she heard the commotion. She had a pink wrap around her head to protect her curls and bluish night cream under her eyes. She scared the boys worse than they had scared us. No wonder Mr. Todd works late. Renae was strangely quiet after the boys had left. I knew she wasn't sorry to see them go, she was just sorry Barton hadn't come. He was leaving early Sunday and she had wasted a night with noisy girls. She could have spent a quiet night with just Barton. We had blueberry pancakes and syrup for breakfast. On the way home, Andrea and I decided it had been a fun party. Even without the pony I had enjoyed it. aj |
