Show -131- Peppermint Monday It didn't take six days, if only took four. On Thursday, in the middle of her tuna sandwich, Andrea said she'd go. She even said it with a smile. I understood her small triumph and I was furious at Renae. It didn't surprise me that Renae knew of the bike ride to the bridge, everybody knew about it. What surprised me, was the fact that she had decided to come along. No one had invited her, but then no one had invited me either. You didn't have to be invited. You could go if you wanted to, which most people didn't. Only a handful of teenage boys ever went, and then only those in pretty good condition. I played a lot of volleyball and ran a lot. Andrea chased the twins everyday, so I knew she was in fair physical condition. Renae couldn't play volleyball, or run, and she never had to babysit. She took dancing lessons and modeling classes. She thought that was exercise. I knew why she was going. I wasn't stupid. She hadn't given up on Matt and she was looking for a way to get his attention. She would get it to, probably while she was rolling backwards down the hill. I doubted she had ever walked to Eaton Bridge or she would have looked for another way to impress Matt. The town used to have a picnic up there every summer, but then everybody had used the road that was almost decent enough for cars. Renae had probably walked the half mile to the bridge from the road. She had no idea what she was in for. I figured Andrea and I would have a rough time, but Renae would never live through it. Even I didn't think Matt was worth that. "Well, I'll see you both Saturday morning." Renae had hurridly spread the news and left when she noticed my rising color. "She's crazier than we are. I'll make it before Renae will." Andrea |
