Show -76- Peppermint Monday for it all. There was enough food to feed all of Ozark County, and enough rented movies to open a theater in Gainesville. That was one thing Barton had really missed. He was a movie buff and would have been lost without Todd's video machine. After we spread out our sleeping bags and changing into our pajamas, Renae got a bright idea for a contest. She was the judge while the rest of us modeled our pajamas. Actually,pajamas wasn't quite the appropriate word for everybody's bed clothes. Sandra had on a filmy, short, pink thing that wasn't long enough to call a nightgown. She won a prize for the sexiest. Tracy had on a long, pretty nightgown with pastel flowers embroidered on the bodice. Herb was the prettiest. I really felt stupid. I had on my blue-striped, footed pajamas. If that wasn't bad enough, the right foot had a hole for my big toe to poke through. I won a prize for the funniest. I got a small box of chocolates. Andrea came over to share them with me. She couldn't understand my embarrassment. To her, chocolates came before pride. She had no excuse for eating chocolates. They aren't legal in any diet I've ever heard of. She just sat there in her plain pink nightgown that hadn't won her any prize, but hadn't humiliated her either, and ate. "When's Barton coming?" Renae flopped on my sleeping bag, still wide awake and radiant. "I didn't know he was invited," I said. Some chocolate was caught in my braces. My tongue scraped across the rough metal to loosen it.
