Show i-eppermint Mcnaa; Naturally Andrea and I were more upset than the others. Renae was sitting by us. Even the boys seemed quieter than usual. I waited for Billy to say something, but he just dug his knife in the upholstery of his seat. I knew he'd seen her though. Billy's bulgy eyes never missed anything. The bus wasn't all. A couple of nights her and Barton watched t.v. at our house. Barton hadn't been warned about doctor shows, and turned one on. Russ didn't say anything. He didn't have to. Jason just got up and changed the channel midway through the show. Barton got upset, just like Jason knew he would, and demanded Jason turn back to their program. When Barton gets upset his ears get red first, then red dots spread across his entire face and neck. Jason gave him enough time to get completely red, and then he said simply. "Russ doesn't like those kind of shows." Renae snuggled against Barton to hide her embarrassment, and we all sat there for some stupid comedy. Renae was the only one that laughed. Barton never even smiled. He was red for a long time after that. I'm not sure if he understood Russ' feeling or not. He wasn't too sensitive where any member of my family was concerned. Anyway, for some unknown reason, Andrea and I went to the Todd's on Friday night with overnight bags. Even Andrea wasn't as enthused as she'd been earlier in the week. I guess we could have stayed at my house with Barton. Either way we would have a miserable, phony time. It was bad enough just to be miserable. It was worse when you were miserable and had to act like you were enjoying yourself. Renae was dressed in new designer jeans and a crisp, cotton shirt. I didn't see why she had gone to so much bother for a group of girls. Barton was home boring ma and pa. He wouldn't even see her- She had gone |
