Somehow, she talked me in to running for Sophomore President. She even got enough of her friends to vote for me in the primaries. I was running against Kent Harlin, Tommy butterflies younger brother- I had always liked to think of myself as a politician in the years to come. I planned on thinking about it when I was Uncle William's age. I would be fifteen before the election was over, but Uncle William still had a good thirty years more experience. I wasn't ready for politics yet, however minor the position was. I was surprised Renae suggested the silly idea in the first place. She didn't ignore me anymore, or say mean things about Russ, but she hadn't invited me to anymore parties either. I thought she must had forgotten all about Barton and his dull clothes. I should have known better - his dad was still a candidate for senator- The Todd's hadn't forgotten that. "Carly, look." She came running toward Andrea and me at lunch. You weren't supposed to run in the cafeteria, but Renae didn't think the elementary rules applied to her. They must not have, because she never got in any trouble. "What is it?" I asked blankly. All I could see was an envelope with her name and address typewritten. I assumed she had a pen pal. I used to have one myself. She was from Martha's Vineyard in Massachutsetts.
