Show through a conveyance and power system in Hobble Creek Canyon. Hall's Fork Tunnel, with a * i00- c. f. s. capacity, would be constructed to convey water from Strawberry Reservoir to Hall's Fork of Diamond Fork, a distance of U. 5 miles. The flows would then be conveyed through a 102- inch- diameter pipeline for 8.5 miles to a U, 800- acre- foot forebay reservoir. The water would be released from there into an underground powerplant and then into Hobble Creek Reservoir. Hobble Creek Dam and Reservoir, with a total capacity of 63,000 acre- feet, would store and reregulate the transbasin flows as required for Bonneville Basin uses. A pipeline would extend down Hobble Creek Canyon to the mouth and then south, conveying flows to the Spanish Fork River, the existing Highline Canal, and ( by pumping) into the proposed Wasatch Aqueduct. The water would be used and distributed in a manner similar to that of the Diamond Fork plan. Other elements of the plan would be the same as in the proposed plan. The power generated under this alternative would be about the same as under the proposed Bonneville Unit plan, but the construction costs and annual pumping costs would be greater. ( b) Present Environment The present environment for the area affected by this alternative has been described for the proposed Bonneville Unit ( Sec. B), except for the Hobble Creek Power System, which would replace the Diamond Fork Power System, including Hayes Dam and Reservoir. The Hobble Creek Power System would extend from near the east portal of the existing Strawberry Tunnel to Hall's Fork of Diamond Fork and by pipeline into Hobble Creek. The area traversed is high mountain country with native vegetation consisting of aspen, conifers, oak- brush, and grasses. The area in Hobble Creek Canyon is mostly oakbrush, with willows and trees along the stream. Hobble Creek Golf Course and several campgrounds are located in Hobble Creek Canyon. A paved highway extends about 3 miles up Hobble Creek Canyon, with graveled roads traversing the remaining length of each fork of the canyon. The area traversed by the pipeline from Hobble Creek Dam to the south end of Utah County and into Wasatch Aqueduct would be along the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Vegetation along the alinement would be mostly grasses and 592 |
