Show a_. All trees and brush 2 feet or more in height and 5 inches or more in diameter would either be cut off at ground level or topped at an elevation at least 5 feet below minimum pool level. b_. Buildings, fences, trash, and other floatable material would be removed. _ c_. All vegetation and materials collected from the reservoir site would be burned, buried, or chipped. Materials to be buried would be covered with at least 2 feet of earth and located in natural depressions below minimum pool elevation. Burning would be conducted under prevailing State regulations. Unapproved materials such as tires, plastics, rubber products, or other materials that create heavy black smoke or nuisance odors would not be burned. d. Proper measures would be used whenever and as often as necessary to reduce and prevent dust from clearing operations. e_. All areas where it is necessary to completely remove vegetation that would not be inundated quickly would be reseeded with grasses in consultation with cooperating agencies. f_. The contractor would exercise care to preserve the natural landscape outside of the designated clearing areas and would be required to conduct his clearing operations so as to prevent any unnecessary destruction, scarring, or defacing of the natural surroundings in the vicinity of the work. £. Clearing activities would be performed by methods that would prevent entrance or accidental spillage of solid matter, contaminants, debris, and other objectionable pollutants and wastes into streams, flowing or dry watercourses, lakes, and underground water sources. 2. Whenever possible, temporary construction facilities would be located in areas conducive to restoration, in reservoir basins, or in places scheduled for recreational development. 462 |
