Found only in areas of large trees - both evergreen and deciduous. Higher elevations of canyon bottom, lateral canyons benchland and uplands. Meadows, grass- forb communities in canyon bottom, benchlands and gentle canyon slopes. Aspen- cottonwood- willow and birch- alder sites of low gradient water course. Entire canyon bottom and lateral canyons having live water. Found in all habitat types except extremely wet sites and extensive rock fields and cliffs. Ledges and cliffs of upper canyon walls. Coniferous trees and mixed conifer- aspen in upper canyon bottoms, canyon slopes and uplands. Wet meadow bottom lands. Meadows, willow- sedge and alder- birch thickets and slow moving water course in bottom of canyon and areas having line water in upper part of lateral canyons. Dryer brush fields and sagebrush slopes of canyon bottom. Prefers ponderosa and lodgepole pine stands but can be found in variety of habitat types. Dens in ledge cliff sites. A- lll |
