The Bureau is confident that the modified program scheduled to go into effect in fiscal year 197^ will significantly improve the recreational aspects of the proposed Bonneville Unit plan. Issue 29.: The Draft Environmental Statement did not adequately consider the historical and archeological implication of the Bonneville Unit. Issue raised by: National Park Service Environmental Protection Agency Response: The Final Environmental Statement has been modified to better explain the current status of this important phase of the Unit. Historical • and archeological sites are discussed in paragraph CUi of the Final Statement. Ill » I Registry of Natural Landmarks- 33 indicated that Bonneville Unit features would not affect any properties designated under either authority. The Utah State Historical Society has stated that there is no apparent conflict with any important historic sites within the boundaries of the proposed Unit. Archeological surveys have been carried out for the Starvation Reservoir basin ( 1967)^' and the area to be inundated behind Soldier Creek Dam ( 1972).^ The results of these surveys revealed that inundation of these two sites would not destroy or degrade any archeological values. Archeological surveys are scheduled for Upper Stillwater and Currant Creek Reservoirs and the remaining areas to be inundated and developed around Strawberry Reservoir, during the summer of 1973 « Additional surveys would be accomplished for the remaining Unit reservoirs and other features as required. / Y 685 |
