Show Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir Enlargement The present capacity of Deer Creek Reservoir is 152,000 acre- feet. Enlargement of the reservoir by 150,000 acre- feet as an alternative to Jordanelle Reservoir was investigated and discussed in the August 1964 Definite Plan Reporto Later, a 320,000 acre- foot enlargement was studied. The additional heights required for the Deer Creek Dam for the enlargement capacities above would be 40 feet and 75 feet, respectively. U. S. Highway 189 would need to be relocated for 3.7 miles for the smaller capacity enlargement and 8.9 miles for the larger capacity. New borrow areas outside the reservoir would be required to furnish material for construction of the dam. A new spillway and outlet works would be required with either enlargement. Land requirements for these enlargements would be as follows: Reservoir Irrigated Grazing Residential enlargement farmland Pasture land and farmstead ( acre- feet) ( acres) ( acres) ( acres) land ( acres) 150,000 740 800 350 170 320,000 1,380 1,550 420 260 About 13 miles of the former D& RGW Railroad from Provo to Heber City ( now renamed Wasatch Mountain State Park Recreation Railway) would also require relocation. Stream fishery would be eliminated from approximately 3 miles of the Provo River channel and 4 miles of tributary streams. The State- operated Midway Fish Hatchery would require relocation. For its water supply, the hatchery now depends on springs nearby and on diversions from Snake Creek, about a mile west of the plant. The hatchery produces about 470,000 pounds of fingerling and catch- able rainbow trout annually, which is about 25 percent of the total State production. The community of Charleston ( 1970 population, 196) would be inundated and would require relocation. In addition to the un- desirability of relocating these facilities and the accompanying adverse environmental effects, estimated construction costs for Deer Creek Reservoir enlargements are higher than costs for Jordanelle Dam and Reservoir at corresponding sizes. Keetley Dam and Reservoir Keetley Dam and Reservoir would be located 8.1 miles north of Heber City on Ross Creek and would have a 613 |
