Show miles parallel to and about 0.8 miles west of the shoreline of Mona Reservoir. The earth- lined canal, with an initial capacity of 35 c. f. s., would serve 1,950 acres of full- service land between the canal and the reservoir. The west pumping unit and discharge line of the Mona Pumping Plant, located at the south end of Mona Reservoir, the West Mona Canal, the West Mona Laterals, and the West Mona Drains were all considered but not adopted. Most of the land which would contain the features above and the land which would be irrigated is presently dry farmed. This canal was replaced by the Nephi- Sevier Canal, and service to the 1,950 acres was deleted from the Bonneville Unit plan. ( g) Upper Branch Mona- Nephi Canal and Associated Features The upper branch of the Mona- Nephi Canal would extend from the end of the discharge line of the Nephi Pumping Plant 3.7 miles to Levan Ridge. The earth- lined canal, with a capacity varying from 30 to 50 c. f. s., would serve 1,660 acres of full- service land. In the proposed plan, this canal was replaced by the Nephi- Sevier Canal and service to the 1,660 acres was deleted. With the exception of the land traversed by the first miles of the upper branch, which is covered by sagebrush and scattered junipers, the land involved in these features is presently dry farmed. ( h) Mosida Upper, North, West, and Central Pumping Plants and Canals Full- service irrigation of 6,220 acres in the Mosida area served by the higher pumping lifts from Utah Lake was deleted from the proposed plan. The land involved is covered with sagebrush, some grass, and a few juniper trees, all of which would be removed if the land were to be irrigated. Irrigation would change the land use of this area, with an accompanying effect on the plant and animal life. Bonneville Basin Reservoir Storage System In addition to facilities required in the collection and distribution of water from the Uinta Basin to the Bonneville Basin, a reservoir storage system would be required to regulate Bonneville Basin streams. Alternatives to the storage facilities included in the present plan are described below. 612 |
