Show Phylum Mollusca Class„ Gastropoda Physella utahensis Common along the rocky shore line of Lincoln Beach - found down to l/ 4m depth. White also found this species in Provo Bay. Ferrissia rivularis ( Say) Class Pelecypoda - Clams are not currently present in Utah Lake. In the late 1800' s and early 1900! s they were very abundant. Tanner 1934 said that for the previous 8 years he dredged the bottom of Utah Lake without finding any living mollusca. Barnes 1972 has dredged extensively in the Goshen Bay area of Utah Lake and not found any living mollusca in the mud- ooze communities. Phylum Annelida Class Oligochaeta - There are probably 3 or 4 species of oligochaetes found in the mud- ooze communities of Utah Lake. They are the most abundant organism found within this substrate. Their average number is about 13,000/ M2 ( Barnes, 1972). Tubifex tubifex Class Hirudinea Helobdella stagnalis ( L.) This is the most abundant leech found in Utah Lake. It is very common on the underside of rocks in the upper littoral zone along the Lincoln Beach rocky shore area. Dina parva Eropdella punctata These two leeches are also very common on the undersides of rocks in the upper littoral zone along the Lincoln Beach rocky shore area, A- 144 |
