Show beyond existing contracts are almost unlimited. These would be combinations of the basic alternatives which are summarized in this section. The environmental impacts of any possible combination of alternatives may be estimated through examination of the impacts of the basic alternatives discussed here. Alternative Plans and Features of Proposed Plan Investigations for increasing the water supply to central Utah have extended over many years. The delivery system to points of use in the Bonneville Basin and the collection system have been the subjects of careful study and scrutiny for about 50 years by Federal and non- Federal agencies and individuals. Many alternatives within the overall plan have been proposed, and estimates have been prepared- some of which were suggested by local people who have participated in the planning process. Several suggested changes have already been made in the proposed plan and others are expected as planning and construction proceeds. The present or proposed plan for the Bonneville Unit is described in Section A. All variations of the proposed plan are considered to be alternatives. Some of the more important alternatives to the proposed plan are discussed in this paragraph. Where not discussed in paragraph a_ below, present environment for areas affected by the alternatives has already been discussed in Section b. a. Collection System At the outset of the planning it was recognized that Rock Creek should be the beginning point for the Strawberry Aqueduct for several reasons: ( l) Rock Creek contributes 39 percent of the flow of the Duchesne River at Duchesne and would be an important source of supply. ( 2) Diversion from the next stream east ( Lake Fork and Yellowstone Creek) would require a long tunnel and another reservoir in addition to Starvation Reservoir for replacement storage for existing uses downstream on these two creeks. ( 3) The flows of Lake Fork are already effectively controlled by Moon Lake Reservoir. Two general plans for importation of water from the Uinta Basin to the Bonneville Basin were investigated. One plan involved diversion of water to an enlarged Strawberry Reservoir; the other plan involved importation to and increased storage on the Provo River. ( l) Strawberry Reservoir Enlargement Plan The conveyance system between Rock Creek and Strawberry Reservoir was named Strawberry Aqueduct. Several alternatives for the Strawberry Aqueduct are discussed below. 576 |
