Show far as practical through the summer recreation season. As future industrial demands develop, they would be supplied first from the upper reservoir. The active capacities of both reservoirs would have to be utilized to develop an industrial water supply comparable to the single reservoir proposed under the Bonneville Unit. Flood- control benefits should be about the same under either plan. One alternative to the construction of regulatory storage facilities on the Jordan River to develop a heavy industrial supply by firming up Bonneville Unit return flows and winter waste water, would be to acquire rights to a similar storage yield from Utah Lake. Present Utah Lake irrigation water could be acquired by local interests or by the Central Utah Water Conservancy District and converted to achieve this. The water could then be delivered from Utah Lake in the same pattern as releases would be made from the proposed Lampton Reservoir. In lieu of the Utah Lake water, low- quality groundwater up to about 20,000 acre- feet might be pumped in the pattern above to firm up the Bonneville Unit return flows and the existing unused flows in the Jordan River. Bennion Dam and Reservoir This alternative to Lampton Dam and Reservoir would store 25,000 acre- feet of water. It would be located at 5700 South on the Jordan River near the town of Bennion. Greater volumes of return flows from Salt Lake Valley for storage would accrue at this site than at Lampton site. However, it would require ( 1) realinement of the Salt Lake City belt route to cross the top of the dam, which would require a 100- foot crest width; ( 2) relocation of the Sandy City and Tri- Community sewage disposal plants; ( 3) a bridge over the reservoir at 7800 South Street; ( 4) relocation or elimination of Jordan Canal; and ( 5) relocation of Sandy Substation and 5 miles of powerline. A total of 1,520 acres of mostly pastureland would be inundated. Borrow requirements would be similar to those of the other sites mentioned. The filled reservoir would be about 5 miles long and 1/ 2 mile wide. The reservoir site is relatively flat, and extensive mud flats would exist at normal drawdown.
