On the Vv. is continued the pt·uirie, but not always bordcl'ing on the l'iver. Timber, on both sides, genentlly hackberTy, cottonwood, and ash. The lluffalo rivet· comes in on the vV. ~bore, and appears to be about 100 yards wide at its mouth. It bears from the Mississippi S. 3oo vV. From the Illinois to this river the nuvigntion is by no means clifftcult, aud the current mild. . 1-'r·om thence to Salt river (or Oahahah) the east shore is either ttnntediatdy bounded by beautiful ceuur clifl's, or the ridges may be; seen at a distance. On the vV. shore there is a rich low soil, and two small rivers which inct·ease the waters of the Mi!)sissippi. The first I called Bar rivet·, about twenty yard!-! in width.
