Show this category consists of the historic Old Sugar Factory. The third building, currently vacant, is an 1898 residence with little to no alteration. All of these buildings fall under Category A of the SHPO building classification. Two additional buildings within the APE, Pioneer Hall (Rock Church) and Gardner's Mill have already been placed on the National Register. One building met the age and integrity requirements for the Register, but exhibits lesser quality. As a Category B structure it qualifies as contributing resources within an historic district, but is not individually eligible for the NRHP. The structure is a post WWII single, residential dwelling. A second post WWII bungalow is categorized as Category B as well, although its construction date places it just outside the more conservative eligibility age of 45 years determined for this survey. The property receives this designation because it could well reach the historic eligibility qualification by the time the project is constructed. Four structures were designated as buildings meeting the age criteria, and are therefore "historic," but either had lost integrity due to heavy modification, or did not meet any of the four evaluation criteria of significance established by the NRHP. All buildings are considered to be of the WWII era. One building was identified as a cottage, one as a bungalow, and the third fell into the category of "Other." All three of these Category C structures were single, residential dwellings. The fourth property consists of an 1850's one-room, lumber, slab-sided cabin on a foundation of sandstone blocks which while historic, has been moved from its original location, making the building ineligible under Category C. Eleven structures were identified as modem buildings ("out of period"), Category D, not meeting the minimum age criteria for eligibility to the Register, rendering them automatically "ineligible." The buildings consist of eight modem commercial structures constructed since 1980. One of these commercial buildings consists of a former fire/police station but is now serving as the cemetery sexton office and a recreational boxing club. Three residential structures, one of which has been renovated for commercial use, complete the category. 29 |
