Show Description of Historic Building Inventory Areas Six historic building inventory areas were examined for the Mid-Jordan corridor. Inventory areas are located in the incorporated cities of Murray City and West Jordan. Historic Building Inventory Area 1 - This inventory area consisted of the structures located along the north and south sides of 6400 South street, between the Union Pacific railroad line currently in use on the east, and 1-15 on the west (Figure 1). A total of three structures were inventoried on 6400 South, one of which was a modem commercial structure which was constructed dUring the early 1980s. The historic buildings in the area date generally to the 1915-1945 period. Historic Building Inventory Area 2 - This inventory area covers the area of Gardner Village, which is located at the intersection of 7800 South and the existant Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad lines in the North Jordan Parkway. Only three of the buildings present were inventoried. These buildings consisted of the historic Gardner's Mill, built in 1853 and currently occupied by a restaurant. The mill building has previously been placed on the National Register. Two other buildings, located at the eastern boundary of the village along the existant raised railway bed, consist of an historic, but ineligible cabin, and a modem maintenance "bam." Historic Building Inventory Area 3 - This inventory area is bounded on the west by Temple Drive (1300 W), on the south by the existing rail Denver and Rio Grande rail lines, on the east by North Jordan Canal, and on the north by 7800 South. Seven buildings were present within this inventory parcel, consisting of a National Register historic church built in 1861 (Pioneer Hall), one historic residence built in 1898, three modem 1980's commercial buildings, one modem residence, and one 1955 residence converted into commercial use. This property has been so modified, however, that it no longer qualifies for National Register eligibility. Historic Building Inventory Area 4 - This inventory area was located on Redwood Road (1700 West). The inventory included two homes and four commercial buildings on the east side of the street. The area inventoried takes in the middle ofthe block between 8000 and 8100 South (Figure 2). A total of six buildings were inventoried. The homes examined are those located just south of the West Jordan City Hall and a large shopping center. Several homes on the south side of this same block were not examined as they are out of the APE. The four commercial buildings consist of one warehouse plus offices and three commercial structures housing multiple business enterprises. All four of these buildings appear to have been constructed during the early 1980's. Historic Building Inventory Area 5 - This inventory area is located on the north side of the proposed project corridor on the Old Sugar Factory Road (Figure 2). The inventory included only the historic Old Sugar Factory. The area surrounding the factory is either vacant, or outside of the project APE. Historic Building Inventory Area 6 - This inventory area covered one modem (1990's) home located on the southeast comer of Spaulding Court, and a 1960 bungalow located on 2700 West directly across the street from Spaulding Lane. These properties were assessed due to their direct placement within the APE of the proposed rail corridor and parking lot.
