Show '- \ "You wa Ik down to the end of the ha II, and it's the one marked 'Boys.' " "Yes, Dr. Lahey, it was bubble gum that caused those thyroid nodules." "Perhaps this is an over simplification, but aspirin is evil." "You'll feel a little stick now, kid." "Be a nice little boy and drink this yummy sugar water so Uncle Norman can examine you in peace." "Watch out! This kid's got a vicious Moro." "This is a snap. I finished it in fifteen minutes." Everyone worked hard on Peds. And so passed Pediatrics. In toto we were exposed to Patrick Bray, Allen Done, Doug Heiner, Eugene Lahey, Jack Madsen, Marvin Rallison, John Wilson, and numerous diseases, the latter by way of variously sized, shaped and dispositioned children many of whom had snotty noses and coughed in our faces, and most of whom totally won us over. Pediatrics was organized to teach through pediatric problem solving and study of the relevant literature. Many of us read more consistently while on Pediatrics than while on any other service. We feel that.this is an excellent - possibly the best - way to teach, but we were disappointed in the final examination. To us, rheumatic fever, croup, pneumonia, and iron deficiency anemia were more common and much more important than the details of Bielschowsky, Spielmeyer, Voyt, . and Batten's Syndrome. |
