Show Russell Jacobs 31 March 2010 Good solid anchors. Uh, and I was setting up the haul system, and I unsnapped my wall harness and forgot that those little pieces were attached, and they went flying down. And I hollered at Tim, and they were ... and then, he saw them coming down as they were sort of spiraling down and swinging away from the attached biner that they were attached to. They were all wired. And they were just out of arms reach. And I just go, "Oh, what have I done?" We've lost the RP's. We've lost the RP's. And I think there were a few other stoppers, too, that we weren't quite concerned with because I think we had backups of those. But the crack that I was in and had just accomplished was so small that I was using the very smallest pieces I had. Our hearts just sank. Because we were told, and we knew that we needed those RP' s for the pitch just past the Great Roof, which is just so incipient. And I just go, "What did I do?" What did I do? What have I done? You know. So, our hearts sort of sank a little bit, but we couldn't stop. We had to get to Camp Four. It was getting dark. And he got up quickly to me, cleaned my pitch, and reracked, put the harness on, started up the next pitch, which was 5.10+, a very difficult pitch. But his mood had changed. My mood was changed. We felt that we somehow ... we knew we weren't gonna make it. But we didn't talk about it. He got a little pissy, as I recall. And I just took it. I knew I was .. .I had it coming. I made a mistake. A big mistake. So, we got up to Camp Four. And Camp Four is a staggered camp, where you have two ledges. You can't lay down. You can only sit up all night, with our feet dangling over the edge. And this monster pig is attached to, you know, something that was maybe fixed or we fixed, off to the side. We had our dinner. I don't know, pork and beans, a glass of water, fruit cocktail. And I recall we had so much ... we had overly done our provisions. 24 |
