Show Russell Jacobs 10 March 2010 it. And we got all cleaned up, jumped in the truck, and then we were heading for dinner. And I told George, I said, "I'm buying you the biggest dinner this valley can provide." And we went over to the Four Seasons, and they had just closed. [Matt laughs] Just closed. We were minutes from getting in. And I thought to myself, well , that' s not gonna stop me. I've got.. .I've still got some tricks. So, we waited for someone to come out, and as they come out, I grab the door and I hollered to George, "Let's go." So, we ran in and sat down at a table. You know, and he was just. . .couldn ' t believe how we got in. He just. .. he's just like, "We've been closed." And he says, "Well ... " And so, we explained to him what we had just done and this and that. So, I guess he had a soft heart and took us to an area that was ... hadn't been completely closed. So, we drove down there and grabbed a little ground cloth and our sleeping bags and went way out there, close to the river. And it' s quite a ways. And just hunkered down into some real tall grass where we wouldn't be found and spent the night. And, uh, at that point, we were invincible. We had done .. .I mean , El Cap, there's probably only less than ten percent of the climbing community that ever gets a route checked off on El Cap. MD: Um-hmm. 21 |
