Show Russell Jacobs 9 December 2009 RJ: But it was, it was ... we made it work. MD: Uh-huh. RJ: You know, we made it work. And, uh, it was great. It was just. .. and as we ... the longer we stayed down there, of course, our language, uh, limited language of Spanish increased some and so, um, it was fun. MD: Um-hum. RJ: It was fun to do that. You know, it was great. MD: Um-huh. RJ: So we're at this ... the mayor's house of this small, little village, and I don't even know if it had a name. It must have had a name, but, you know, we didn't really pay much attention to that. I mean, Jorasmo took us there. And this gentleman was so gracious, so humble, so, uh .. . and his wife just opened up their arms to us. And we were ... so after dinner, it was getting late. We knew we were going to get up early and, uh, then again burrow up ... take the burros and get 'em harnessed up and everything to get up to fourteen ... to another base camp. Um, but as we went to our quarters for the night and, uh, got on our cots, our single little cots, which were at least four because we all had a bed, the rafters were, uh .. .in the rafters ... had ... they hung their com, uh, to dry. And I don't know for what reason, but the rafters seemed to be just full of hanging com. You know, tied together and just husks of com hanging from the rafters, which, you know, it was just different. You know, I mean, you don't see that anywhere else. You know, but these little villages high in the mountains. Um, early in the morning we get up. Our breakfast. . .I don't know what we had for breakfast, but I'm sure we had something. And maybe it was just instant oatmeal or something. 22 |
