Show Russell Jacobs 25 November 2009 MD: Well, great, I want to digress a little bit if that's okay RJ: Sure. MD: Um, and I thought we might Just go back to the very beginning. Uh, when and where were you born? RJ: I was born in, um, Tnpler Hospital, Honolulu, Haw an It's still pmk to this day [Matt chuckles] MD: And, uh, how were you born in Hawan? RJ: My father was in the he was on a Search and Rescue plane, uh, with seven I thmk there was eight of them, totally, that flew and rescued people that were, uh , you know, somehow ended up in the ocean. MD: Um-hum. RJ: Right during the Korean War And, he was stat10ned on Wake Island. And my mother, uh, migrated over to Honolulu with her parents to be as close as she could with my father They were newlyweds. I'm the oldest of seven. And, uh, she there were no dependents allowed on Wake Island at the time, but he would get a leave and fly back to Honolulu from time to time. And so, that's where it all happened for me. I didn't spend a lot of time there. I thmk when his four year term was up, I was about two years old. And so we came back to Salt Lake. MD: Um-hum. So, they were from ? RJ: They were from Salt Lake. Yup, my father, my mother were born here. My five sisters and my brother were all born here. MD: Um-hum. Okay so, growing up m Salt Lake, what was your, um, exposure to outdoor recreation? 9 |
