So that's a culture, um, that kind of appreciates the, uh, you know, the funds that foreigners bring in? RJ: Oh, most definitely. MD: Uh, that climbers bring in? RJ; Most definitely. MD: Um-hum. RJ: And I think that a lot of the guardians that established themselves as camp hosts, this was there, you know ... they fought or jockied for climber. .. climbing expeditions to come in to be on their ... to be part of it. MD: Um-hum. RJ: Uh, not that there were that many, but there were a few, there were enough, to where some of them were left out each season. MD: And did he speak, uh, basic English? RJ: No. MD: No English. RJ: No. No English. MD: Um-hum. RJ: None. Zip. MD: Um-hum. So ... RJ: So what little, little Spanish that we acquired while we were down there ... we were able to communicate.
