Show EDISON Having both grown up in musical families, Texans Elisa and Anastacio Castillo (center), bring a rich repertory of traditional ballads, rancheras and Tex-Mex style music to Utah. Working with a network of local Hispanic musicians, they play in both private and public settings, from serenading on Mother's Day to helping organize community events like Midvale's growing Cinco de Mayo celebration. Joined recently by Sonoran native Israel Moreno (left) and former Arizonan Larry Cruz (right), their El Trio Rio Bravo band plays regularly for La Puente Restaurant and is a familiar addition to many local events. (CE:92) THE ROLE OF HISPANIC BUSINESSES Commercial establishments, especially restaurants, have long provided a meeting ground for Utah's minority and majority cultures. In past years restaurants serving Mexican-style food, like the Guadalupe Center's La Morena Cafe, were one of the few arenas where Hispanic performers could share their arts with a mixed audience. Groups like The Dons and El Quinteto Latino are among those who played a repertory of Mexican, Latino and American music that attracted a diéntele from both the Hispanic and non- Hispanic population. In the last decade, the popularity of southwestern cuisine and the parallel growth of Utah's Hispanic population have resulted in the proliferation of restaurants and bars-many that EL PAPEL DE LOS NEGOCIOS HISPANOS Los locales comerciales, en especial los restaurantes, han proveído por largo tiempo un lugar de reunión para todos los grupos de Utah.
