Show HISPANIC ARTS -V--U-A-DA-1 I *4- _ _ fl During the 1980s the number of Utah parishes offering Spanish language mass reportedly grew from one or two to around twenty. For the last five years guitarist Dionicio O. González and his daughter, choir leader Isabelle N. Chacón, have sung lead vocals for Our Lady of Guadalupe's weekly Spanish mass. (GR:92) fast-growing Hispanic population has prompted church leaders to encourage Hispanic activities-activities that often include a Spanish language mass, formation of a Spanish language choir and celebration of holy days such as Our Lady of Guadalupe Day on December 12th. One of the first parishes to offer weekly Spanish language services was Our Lady of Guadalupe in northwest Salt Lake City. Many others, like Sacred Heart Parish in central Salt Lake City, now have a Spanish Choir that sings both church hymns and traditional tunes for services and for special celebrations.
