Show • . December 1979 Status Report - Colorado River Salinitv Control Project - Title II of the Colorado River Salinity Control Act (P.L.93-320.) >w- Jt Title II of the Colorado River Salinity Control Act authorized the construction of four salinity control units in the Colorado River Basin above Imperial Dam. They are the Grand Valley and the Paradox Valley Units in Colorado, the Crystal Geyser Unit in Utah, and the Las Vegas Wash Unit in Nevada. Since that authorization, two of the units, Crystal Geyser and Las Vegas Wash Units, have been deferred because of poor cost effectiveness and seme uncertainties about their proposed solutions. Brief status statements follow for the other units. SN r Grand Valley Unit Initial construction en the Grand Valley Unit will be limited to the Stage I area, a 6,300 acre portion of the unit located in the Reed Wash drainage below the Government Highline Canal. The Stage I area will be closely monitored to determine its effectiveness in preventing salt from entering the Colorado River, and recommendations for proceeding with the remainder of the Unit will be based on the evaluation of results from this monitoring program. The estimated cost of Stage I features is $18 million, based on January 1979 prices. The cost of the entire Grand Valley Unit has been estimated at $146 million (based upon a January 1978 feasibility study).
