Show - Wildlife, continued' Advocated wildlife habitat protection at hearings of BLM at Vernal, Utah, on BLM management in northeast Utah: Brown's Park, Clay Basin, roadless areas Wrote 11 page report to BLM with recommendations. - Advocated wildlife habitat protection at hearings in Manila, Utah, on County Commissioner's proposed highway development to connect already contructed road from Colorado with Flaming Gorge and Yellowstone Park. (Wlnnebagos get stuck in primitive roads existing. Primitive roads cost too much for County to maintain.) Lone wildlife advocate - among developers from Wyoming, Colorado and Utah - other than Forest Service, Fish & Wildlife Service, Park Service. One Uintah Basin County Commissioner keeps tab on meetings I attended! 1 9 7 8 - Wilderness/wlldllfe/Multlpif* Use Management February Forest Service Conflict Resolution Meeting, Bottle Hollow, representing High Uintas Wilderness Coalition, Feb. 1978 CUP - Researched all Impacts from CUP on streams and wildlife on Uinta Range south slopes for Bureau of Reclamation hearings in Vernal, October 1977, on Comprehensive EIS on Colorado River Basin. Prepared three pages of questions for hearings. Followed up with report to Secretary Andrus"demanding" Bureau address resource impacts. 1 9 7 8 - Meeting with BuRec in Salt Lake City,set up at instiga- February tion of Secretary Andrus, to get answers to my questions. BuRec. staff present: 3 regional solicitors; geologist; 2 wildlife/fisheries staff; BuRec. CUP planner, Provo; P.R. person, Debbie Linke.(Couldn' t tape meeting.) Followed up with letter to Andrus requesting complete and independent Task Force review of CUP. 1 9 7 8 - sPsnt six weeks setting up meeting in Salt Lake City M a v 11 between Bob Sanchez, Interior Missouri River Basin Representative on his terms with resource staffs from Northern Arizona University, Utah State and Brigham Young Universities, Fish & Wildlife Service, Forest Service, and citizens - to explain nature of our concerns for stream and wildlife resources, Utah Lake. Three days before meeting, key people began to back out, refuse to present data - careers at stake, can't rock the boat! Bob Sanchez called in sick! Back to Andrus with an angry letter.' (Even BuRec. friends agreed this was as angry as "Dorothy could get!") 197o June, July - Met with Trout Unlimited and Federation of Fly Fishermen at Conclave near Kamas to propose we organize group on CUP issues. Subsequently formed Citizens for a Responsible CUP and prepared Issues Paper #1 as first effort to publicize cost, alternatives, Bureau cost calculation methods.
