Show small brush. Small acreages of farmland would also be encountered. The pipeline would cross two State highways, several county roads, and utility lines in the area. The only populated area affected would be on the eastern fringes of Mapleton. ( c) Environmental Impacts of the Alternative An open- cut channel about a mile long would be required from the minimum water surface level of Strawberry Reservoir to the inlet of Hall's Fork Tunnel. This cut would be exposed during periods of reservoir drawdown. Materials excavated from the cut could be placed in the reservoir basin below the high water surface elevation. Material from the tunnel would be deposited in Hall's Fork of Diamond Fork near the tunnel outlet. A pipeline from the tunnel to the forebay reservoir would leave a construction scar for a distance of 3.5 miles. Care would be taken to reshape and restore the area and to cause only minimum disturbance to the natural vegetation during construction. The forebay reservoir would be located in a small canyon called Cedar Canyon and would have a normal water- surface elevation of approximately 7>^ 20 feet. Since this reservoir would be emptied almost daily for power generation during peak periods of power use, no fishing would be provided. Maximum reservoir fluctuation would be about 100 feet. About 65 acres of big game summer habitat would be inundated by the reservoir. Construction activities would also disrupt big game movement. The Hobble Creek Powerplant would be located underground, with access provided by a tunnel. Flows would be released through a discharge tunnel into Hobble Creek Reservoir. Excavated material from the tunnels and powerplant chambers could be deposited in the Hobble Creek Reservoir Basin. Hobble. Creek Dam and Reservoir would inundate about 560 acres Of land at a water- surface elevation of approximately 5,2*+ 5 feet. About 5 miles of Class III stream fishery ( para. ETa) in both forks would be inundated by the reservoir. Hobble Creek Dam would be constructed through a portion of Hobble Creek Golf Course. The reservoir 594 |
